TECHNICAL UPDATE 8:55 PDT: I had to eliminate the new (and apparently buggy) slide show feature. The pictures still click through to a larger version, but I’m afraid you’ll have to hit the BACK arrow on your browser now. Not as elegant but at least everyone should be able to see them now.
LOS ANGELES – The B.L.O.G.-CISCO SYSTEMS web statistics analyzer reported a large blip in the hits last week here on Boring Load Of Garbage. It didn’t take long to discover the majority of the bump was coming from this game show chat forum. I followed the link back to the source and saw that a forum member, bwood, had discovered my post about The Price Is Right logo facelift. His post and the ensuing comments were not only flattering to me (thank you, board members), but were chock-full of graduate-level research observations about game show graphics and play. If there were such a thing as Doctor of Philosophy – Game Show Studies, these folks would all have their PhDs.
I particularly liked their virtual offers of food items: “Four Spaghetti Cat points”, “a bowl of chicken tetrazinni”, “And don’t forget a side of sweeeet potato (Oprah’s ‘favorite’)”, and I would like to virtually accept them. Thank you. In return, I humbly offer a gallery of the making of The Price Is Right set elements from the summer of 2007. Feel free to weigh in with any observations or questions. I’m working hard here at trying to get on staff at a late night comedy show or daytime chat show with a comedy component, but I can always use a diversion. Yogi Berra said “When you get to a fork in the road, take it.” One never knows where that fork will lead. Welcome, gameshow.ipbhost.com and also you, golden-road.net (love the banner graphics!)

As a member of the Game Show Forum and a new subscriber to your blog, thank you for these awesome pictures! I’ll make sure everyone knows. Thanks and well done on the awesome redesign!
Hello, this is Brandon (user fostergray82) on the forum. Awesome work, and thanks for the extra pics. Keep up the good work!
Hey, you’re welcome, Cory! Glad to have you! I knew I’d have to figure out how to do a slideshow with WordPress anyway.
Thanks, Brandon. I look forward to more of your observations.
Hey! This is the other Brandon (bwood) on the forum. The one who stumbled across your great blog. Thanks for saying such good things about us and our forum and thank you for the “Price” pics! You’re awesome at what you do. Keep it up and feel free to stop by the forum any time!
Ah, the famous bwood! You’re the resident sleuth on the boards (or at least one of them). Glad you found me and thanks again for the words.
Hi there – I’m the one with the Spaghetti Cat quip; I could have made a Ryan Seacrest-height-related joke but I decided to go a different route.
As a fellow motion graphics person (and way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaay on the intermediate level, mind you)… when you were designing the limo portion for the E! Bling promo – was it more of a vanishing point idea and then animate with the camera… I assume (and hope) in AfterEffects, too!
Anyway, love the work.
Hey Nick,
I’m glad you stuck with the food reference, but would have appreciated the Seacrest bit too.
Sometimes I like to use a null layer (in 3D of course) instead of animating with the camera. That’s probably what I did on the Blingariffic piece. It’s one master move, with all the objects assigned to the null layer (renamed something like MASTER MOVE). If you want to reposition an object, you just move that object (using that object’s controls, not the MASTER MOVE) back in Z-space or whatever, and don’t necessarily put in a keyframe (unless you want a local move within the move). As long as it’s parented to the MASTER MOVE layer, it will all play out.
The camera can sometimes be difficult to move precisely (which is why I do it this way sometimes), but that’s probably just me. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the fantastic behind-the-scenes gallery! Your redesign really makes the new set pop!
Thanks, MJ! Good to hear from you again.

You oughta see my drawings!! Type “TPIR T.O.O.N. ME (This One’s ON ME)” in the Search field and scope out some killer stuff… I think you’ll like it!!

Nice stuff, JK! Wish I could bottle your enthusiasm and sell it — there’s a fortune in there. Thanks for the comments!
