Hey MJ, and thanks again. More great points. I can’t wait to see the new Michael Moore film, though part of me wishes he wasn’t promoting it now and was instead hosting screenings of Sicko. He’s just one man. Well, maybe one and a half men (down from about two men). Thanks for your comment and follow up info. Would you consider writing a guest piece for B.L.O.G.? You have an interesting take on so many subjects. Think about it. Your illustration or I’ll do one for you.

Some great points here Mr Brown! The powerful corporate grip on our government means that even compelling, life-saving measures will be watered down and delayed for the profit and convenience of companies with threatened interests.

Mine safety is another great example of citizens dying so companies can keep their costs down. I remember learning a song in grade school, “Drill Ye Tarriers Drill,” in which a miner is caught in a huge explosion. Then he’s told: “You were docked for the time you were up in the sky.”

As usual, Michael Moore is right on time with his new film about capitalism. The corruption is wired into the system through campaign contributions that allow special interests to buy Congress. Until we change that (and I think it will take an amendment to the Constitution) America will not be a true democracy.

Well, said, Mr. Vilardi. And thank you. MJ, you are practically a co-writer on this as it reflects many conversations we've had on the topic. The identity point of view line is from you, the we have Nixon to thank for the socialism/communism confusion concept is from you… so much more. This rambling mess wouldn't have been half as coherent without you. It is still a rambling mess, though; a work in progress. Doing the many versions and revisions did force me to study the issue more closely, to try and see it from different sides, gain a better understanding. I learned a lot. Few people outside of my close friends will read this post, but then I did it for myself. Just trying to improve my writing. Opinion is tougher to write than silly stories, though. You've been harping on about this topic on Facebook, along with a select few others in my little world there. I wish you'd write more outside the walled garden (again, from you), and open up your writing to the larger internet world.

This is surely your magnum opus Mr. Brown! A useful and engaging overview of this most important conflict. I call it a conflict because I think the “debate” was over before it began. Few minds will be changed now. Healthcare has become a war – total war, in which no tactic is too extreme. If Obama doesn’t start playing LBJ-style hardball we’ll get stuck with something really bad: a law that REQUIRES every American to get shafted by the insurance industry.

As a bitter aside: this is a fight we should have had in the booming ’90’s. Clinton blew it big time. Reform and change are a much tougher sell in during hard times…

personally, I like lighter colors in my winter quiver for visibility among drivers. they help you stand out against the winter light and keep us safe.
